Twisted Metal

Twisted Metal launched with the PlayStation itself and defined vehicular combat on the console: pick a driver, enter an arena disguised as a city street or rooftop, and shoot everyone else until one car is left standing. Each vehicle trades armour against speed and carries a unique special weapon, so choosing between the fragile ice cream truck and a heavy assault vehicle changes how you approach every fight. Its darkly comic premise, in which a contest winner receives any wish, framed a roster of deliberately unpleasant characters.
