WWF SmackDown! 2: Know Your Role expanded the previous game's season mode into a deeper career structure, adding storylines, rivalries and a create-a-wrestler suite that let players design their own competitors down to their entrance and finishing move. The wrestling engine itself grew more varied, with reversals and grapple chains giving matches a rhythm closer to broadcast television than a straight fighting game. It arrived at the peak of the Attitude Era and sold accordingly.
