About WWF SmackDown!
WWF SmackDown! brought Japan's more grapple-focused wrestling engine design to a WWF game for the first time, favouring chains of holds and reversals over the fast, arcade-style striking of earlier Acclaim titles. Its season mode gave every match a place in an ongoing storyline with rivalries and title pushes, closer to watching actual broadcast television than a straightforward tournament ladder, and its roster captured the WWF's roster right as the Attitude Era hit its commercial peak.
