About Spyro the Dragon
Spyro the Dragon set its purple hero loose across open, hub-based worlds rather than the tighter linear stages common to platformers of the time, letting players glide, charge and torch enemies while freely exploring for gems and trapped dragons. Its emphasis on speed and open exploration, backed by then-impressive draw distances, distinguished it from Crash Bandicoot and other PlayStation mascot platformers built around a strict path from start to finish.
