Tales of Destiny

Tales of Destiny introduced the Linear Motion Battle System to the West, moving combat onto a horizontal plane where characters run, jump and combo in real time rather than waiting through menu-based turns, a format the Tales series would keep refining for decades afterward. Its story follows a swordsman drawn into a hunt for ancient weapons called Swordians, told through frequent, character-driven skits that gave the cast far more personality than typical genre dialogue of the time.
