About The King of Fighters '99
The King of Fighters '99 introduced the Striker system, letting you call a fourth character onto the screen for a single assist attack without them ever entering the fight themselves. It also began a new story arc, the NESTS saga, bringing fresh protagonists alongside series veterans and shifting the plot's tone. The core three-on-three structure and its deep footsie-based neutral game remained, but the Striker mechanic changed team-building calculations for the rest of the series.
