About Unholy War, The
The Unholy War is a 3D fighter with a strategy layer bolted on: before each match you spend a budget to hire warriors from opposing armies of Heaven and Hell, then send them into arena combat one at a time. Winning fights earns resources to hire stronger units, so a run becomes as much about army management as reflexes in any single duel. Its blend of genres was unusual for the era and gave it a niche identity distinct from the pure fighters crowding the PlayStation library.
